This lesson will explain and expand pupils’ understanding of adverbs while preparing them to define, identify, compare and use adverbs.

MEANING OF ADVERBS
Adverbs are words that add more description to adjectives, verbs, or other adverbs expressing a location, time, manner, degree, or frequency.

TYPES OF ADVERBS
There are five basic types of adverbs in the English language. Namely: Adverbs of Manner, Adverbs of Time, Adverbs of Place, Adverbs of Frequency, and Adverbs of Degree.

FUNCTIONS AND USES OF ADVERBS
The major function of adverbs in a sentence is to modify verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. Adverbs answer the questions when, where, how, and to what extent (how much or how long).

IDENTIFICATION OF ADVERBS
Most adverbs end in –ly. Place words and time words are all adverbs. Adverbs may also modify adjectives or other adverbs. An adverb that modifies an adjective or another adverb usually goes before that adjective or adverb. E.g. Kiran is an extremely good dancer.

COMPARISON OF ADVERBS
In this lesson, we'll look at how adverbs is compared. Just like adjectives, adverbs can be compared using three degrees- positive, comparative and superlative. Also the difference between Adverbs and Adjectives will be discussed.
